Having a Healthy Work-Life Balance

Between the average 8-hour workday and an 8 hour sleep cycle. How much time do we really have in the day to live a healthy life? Including commute times, the average working day and having a proper sleep cycle, the answer is approximately 6 hours. Although it doesn’t seem like a lot of time, there are ways to learn how to make the most out of those 6 hours so you can have a healthy work-life balance.

Personal Responsibilities

For many, personal responsibilities are a significant factor as to why we often feel like there’s not enough time in the day. These responsibilities can include caring for your kids, supporting your parents, taking care of your siblings, and much more. We often live a busy life outside of work. While your personal relationships are an important part of your life outside of work, it’s important to make sure these responsibilities don’t become a second job for you.

Time-Management

One of the best ways to maintain a healthy work-life balance is planning and improving your time-management skills. Write down your daily schedule so you can start to visualize where there is time to do the things you want to do. Identify which activities are taking away from your time. Sometimes you want to get caught up on news and recent events – next thing you know it you have already spent an hour scrolling through your news feed. It happens more often than you think. Once you realize that you are in control of how you spend your time – you’ll find it easier to plan and make time for the things you want to do.

Time-Consuming Tasks

Whether it’s watching your favorite web series. We’re all a victim to the temptation of binge-watching – spending hours of our time with our eyes glued to the screen. These are time-consuming activities! An hour (or multiple hours) can seamlessly go by in an instant. It is important to understand that although watching TV or movies is not necessarily a bad thing, there are plenty of other things you can do to make the most out of your day.

Having a work-life balance is important to your mental health. With such a busy everyday routine, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves too. By mastering the following tips, you can start to realize that a work-life balance is actually possible and highly beneficial to your work week.

Focus On You

In an average day, we tend to forget to take care of someone that is really important: you. With the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life – working 8 hours a day, driving to and from work, running errands and much more; we often forget to set time aside for ourselves. Discover or re-discover the things that make you happy in life and set time aside to do those activities. Playing sports, painting, reading, going to the gym, going on walks, spending time with your friends and family etc. Prioritize these things so you can be happier throughout the work week.
