Success Story: Support for summer job search

Client:Hailey
Goal: Find a summer job to help pay for school
Challenge: Financial Support; adapting to COVID-19 job market
Support offered: Virtual workshops; Youth Job Connection; Access to job opportunities

““I would recommend VPI to friends because they offer a straight forward program that allows people to be paid while improving their job skills.”

– Hailey, former job seeker

Situation

Prior to Spring 2020, Hailey had planned to use her summer break from university to return to her summer job. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, her job was no longer available. Her former employer directed her to VPI.

With VPI’s services available remotely, Hailey met virtually with a member of our team. Together they came up with a plan to find Hailey a job that could help her pay for tuition in the fall.

Hailey signed up for the Youth Job Connection (YJC) program–a government–funded program where participants can receive payment for completing paid virtual workshops, and paid job placements.

Because we have access to a network of employers who are actively hiring, we can connect job seekers to open opportunities–even during the pandemic.

After completing her paid virtual workshops, Hailey successfully applied for a job at a local campground. Between the funding she received while completing the YJC program and her new job, Hailey is able to start saving up for her return to school in the fall.
