Response to COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on business and forced many companies to lay-off employees. In response to this unprecedented shift, the Better Jobs Ontario program is changing to help people whose careers have been most-effected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Program changes

The program will continue to help laid off workers access the training they need to re-enter the workforce in a new in-demand career. Beginning in 2021, the Better Jobs Ontario program will make the following changes:

  • Prioritize laid-off workers in sectors most-impacted by COVID-19
  • Focus on short-duration training, in order to be more responsive to labour market demands
  • Begin to digitize the application process, to make it more user-friendly and accessible
