Situation
Warren had been working as a sheet metal worker. But after experiencing a knee injury, he needed to look for a new line of work. His long-term career goal was working in law and real estate. But his previous experience did not translate into those fields and the costs associated with retraining were high.
He got in contact with his local VPI and applied for the Better Jobs Ontario (formerly Second Career) program. The Better Jobs Ontario program provides laid-off, unemployed individuals with financial support and skills training to help them find employment in high-demand occupations in Ontario.
Warren’s application was successful, and he received funding to attend Law Clerk courses at Centennial College. After completing the program and with job interview help, Warren was able to get hired in his preferred industry.
Today, Warren has taken what he learned from his training and has achieved his career goal–working as a Commercial Property Manager.
