In March, we rolled out our latest learning tool to help job seekers with their job search: The Learning Centre. The Learning Centre is an online resource that offers job seekers free access to workshops.
In the days since we launched the Learning Centre, dozens of job seekers have enrolled in hundreds of workshops. We want to spread the word about this resource and highlight some of the features that we’re most excited about.
This Employment Ontario service is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario. All our workshops are available to job seekers for free. This is not a free trial period or a freemium application, it is completely free. There are no advertisements and you do not need a credit card to sign up. All you need is a valid email address and an interest in self-improvement.
We have always offered free workshops to job seekers at our local branches. But this is the first time we are able to deliver these workshops directly to you at home, or anywhere else you like to learn. Once you register, you’ll be able to access workshops instantly from your computer, no matter where you are.
The Learning Centre is also fully responsive and works on smart phones and tablet devices. Whether you’re at one of our branches, in the comfort of your own home or on the go, you can access the Learning Centre anywhere with an internet connection.
Set your own pace
The Learning Centre is always open. Even if it’s the middle of the night, the weekend or a holiday, you can register, login or take a workshop any time you want.
Our workshops are broken down into manageable sections and can be completed in as little as 30 minutes. But everyone learns at a different pace and carving out a chunk of uninterrupted time can be a challenge. Luckily, you do not need to complete an entire workshop in a single sitting. As you work your way through each workshop your progress is automatically saved. The next time you return you will be able pick up right where you left off. Our workshops will fit your schedule and learning style.
Explore the Course Catalogue
One of the Learning Centre’s most exciting features is the ability for users to browse the course catalogue. You’ll be able to see all our available workshops and pick the ones that interest you. You can enroll in any workshop with a single click and gain instant access. There is no limit to the number of workshops you can enroll in and you can work through multiple workshops at the same time. You’re in complete control of tailoring your curriculum to fit your unique needs.
We currently have over 20 workshops to choose from with more on their way. Our workshops cover a range of topics that are relevant to job seekers. So far, our most popular workshops are:
- Occupational Research
- Building Self-Reliance
- Job Interviews
- Resume and Cover Letters
- Health, Safety, and Employment Standards
Track and share your progress
One of the best ways to stay motivated is to see the progress you’ve made. As you work through your personalized curriculum, you’ll be able to access charts and graphs that track your success. You can even download an infographic to share with your friends. And once you successfully complete a workshop you’ll receive a printable certificate.
Different Learning Styles
People learn in different ways. Our workshops feature a variety of media to help you learn and retain key information. Our workshops include:
- Interactive quizzes and games
- Downloadable reference booklets
- Links to additional, relevant articles
Whatever your preferred learning style, we have resources to help.
