NEW PROGRAM HELPS YOUNG CANADIANS CHOOSE THE RIGHT PATH TO A SUCCESSFUL WORK LIFE

Two-day workshop helps teens sort through career options to find what’s right for them

June 19, 2007, TORONTO – Responding to calls from parents who want to help their teens make informed education and career planning decisions, vpi Inc. is today introducing iQuest, a two-day workshop that helps students sort through career options and find a path that is right for them.

“Teens and parents have been asking me how to explore career options and set a direction for their lives,” said vpi Inc. president and CEO Gail Rieschi. “The two-day iQuest workshop will teach teens the vital skills they need to make career decisions based on identifying their personality traits, predispositions, preferred lifestyles and career or job interests.”

The iQuest workshops are highly interactive and include personality testing and exercises designed to explore learning styles, emotional intelligence and the world of work.

“Young Canadians have very limited access to career development services to help them choose paths to a successful working life,” says Rieschi. “We’re introducing iQuest to fill that void, which will help reduce school drop-out rates, change mindsets that restrict career choices, and reduce poverty and unemployment by improving youths’ chances of finding satisfying and well-paying jobs.”

“High school students simply don’t know what career paths are available to them, and there is little support offered,” said Brian Spencer, who strongly believes in the importance of the training iQuest provides. “Since taking the iQuest program, my son is more focussed about where he wants to go and understands how to capitalize on his abilities towards a satisfying work life.”

Brian’s son Matt agrees with him. After completing an undergrad degree at the University of Toronto, he took a year off without knowing what career he wanted.

“iQuest showed me a vast array of career opportunities that I hadn’t even considered or imagined. Now I have a path to follow to help me achieve the kind of career I really want,” said Matt Spencer.

iQuest is available at any of vpi’s 32 offices across Ontario starting in mid-July. Questions and registration can be directed to (416) 784-9541.
